I love your content! Every time I read one of your articles, I read it in your voice. I appreciate the price comparisons, and tips for saving $$ on kid-related stuff. Kids are great, but they're expensive.

Love to hear about whats good about college? Not only the financial bottom line. Me nor my two daughters went to "llive in" college. Ive spent most of my life trying to become independent on my own two feet. Like how it teaches people to live with others, how to be involved in the world, how to love your own life, and about patience things will come around not instant gratification etc. Thanks for all you do. Enjoy your content.

Hi Debbie -- this is a great question. What's the ROI on college anymore? I actually wrote about this recently. And it's personal for me with my oldest daughter in college now.

Check out my recent post here:

I would love more information on the latest scams. Ex: every time I get a replacement credit card because of fraud the fraudsters start charging on my replacement card. This is so frustrating. They even have tried to open checking accounts in my name. I even belong to LifeLock. Thanks and good luck with your new venture.

Jeff Rossen's avatar

I'll look into this. You should put an immediate freeze on your credit files at Experian, Transunion and Equifax. You can do it from your computer. This stops the criminals from being able to open accounts in your name.

I see YouTubers who compare Dollar Tree items to much more expensive ‘dupes’ on Amazon. You have greater credibility than some of those who do this. I know it motivated me to validate the claim and go buy it! Also, Covid taught many of us to buy our clothing at Sam’s & Costco. I, and others like me, never returned to the Macy’s. JCP or Kohl’s. Love your newsletter and posts!

And this is how. In small town. Communities, we lose our grocery stores.. gobbling up our downtown space. The poorest have to buy their foods even if it's smaller packaging. Sad to see their greed.

Jeff Rossen's avatar

Yes I was actually just visting my kids for their camp visiting day. Small, rural town. And all I saw were Dollar Generals. No regular grocery stores.

I always buy Visa or American Express gift cards for my grandchildren at CVS but I'm always worried. Can those be scammed as well?

Jeff Rossen's avatar

Anytime gift cards are out, they can be compromised. The criminal writes down the code numbers on the back, waits for it to be sold, and then empties it once you activate the card. Always safer to get it from the employee behind the counter where the scammer wouldn't have access to it before you.

Great job! Always enjoy watching you! Been watching since pothole patrol in NYC!! So great that you took the jump and did your own thing. Keep going!

Is there a method that stores use to put stuff on sale/clearance, like every 2 weeks or something like that?

Jeff Rossen's avatar

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for the support.

Each retail chain has a different schedule, but yes, there's a method to the markdown madness. Here's a recent video I did about Costco's pricing, for example: https://youtu.be/HSY8VKGSOXo

I also have a video coming out about decoding TJMaxx pricing. I'll do more stores.

Love that you are following your heart in a heartless business! If you can look into gift cards bought at places other than the store you intend to give the gc for. Ex Home Depot gift card bought at cvs. People are hacking them and using it before the giftee gets to use it! My brother bought me a generous $100 gc for Home Depot at CVS on June 28, I went to use it at Home Depot on July 23 and it was used on July 20th not by me! I just opened it at the store saved scratched off the silver thing. The cashier told me it was redeemed. After looking into it they were able to get the information of who used it and where it went but couldn’t do anything bc it’s from a third party gc issuer not directly from Home Depot. I cashed the third party issuer but no luck in getting it reinstated from the them issuer I do not have proof of purchase. If you want to buy a gift card go to the store you want it from. They do not use the third party gc issuer. Tell the people this and save their hard earned money from hackers! Thank you

Jeff Rossen's avatar

Thank you, Lisa! Your support is the reason I can do this, and gives me fuel. That gift card scam is common. Here's the fix...when you order gift cards, don't buy them off the rack. Always ask for the gift cards behind the counter or locked away. Thats the fix! That way, the scammers can't get to the gift cards to steal the code number on the back.

I’m a new subscriber. I’d like to know about the “new” brands of dog foods, the fresh refrigerated types. What’s actually good for your dog, what is the best value.

Thank you!
