Prime Day Warning: FAKE Sales Are Tricking You
You're Not REALLY Getting A Deal -- How To Spot the Ripoff!
You know all those “48% OFF!” and “Prime Day DEALS!” you’re seeing splashed across Amazon and other big retailers this week? Some of them aren’t deals at all.
Here’s the dirty little secret: Some companies quietly jacked up prices over the past couple of weeks — just so they could “slash” them for Prime Day. You’re not getting 48% off the real price… you’re getting 48% off a price that never should’ve existed in the first place.
And the worst part? It works. Those red sale banners? The countdown timers? The -24% markdown tags? They hit your brain hard. Psychologists call it “price anchoring” — and it’s designed to make you feel like you’re missing out if you don’t click right now.
The companies know this. They’re counting on you getting caught up in the excitement — not doing the math.
That’s why I just dropped THIS video showing how to spot these fake deals in real time — and the free tool I use to track price history. It’s fast, it’s easy, and it might save you a ton of money
Beat the system — Rossen style!
Use a Price Tracker: Go to CamelCamelCamel.com — it shows the entire price history of any Amazon product. That $39 “deal” might have been $28 last month.
Install a Browser Extension: I personally like HoneyHoney (by PayPal). It will:
-Automatically apply coupon codes at checkout
-Show you price drops over time
-Compare Amazon sellers for the same product
Check for Open-Box & Used Deals: Amazon has a secret section called Amazon Resale — where they sell used, “like new” items for up to 90% off (seriously!) I tested it here to see how the products arrive, and if they really work!
Old School Hack to Spot Fake Deals: Compare the sale price on Amazon to other stores (Target, Walmart, Best Buy) — many are price-matching today anyway.
Personal note: If you find this newsletter helpful, please share it with your family and friends. They’ll appreciate it. So will I. Really helps support my work — protecting your money!
Ok back to it…!
One item I found on sale for Prime Day? Trackers — like Apple AirTags. But what REALLY caught my eye was this cheap Amazon dupe — for less than HALF THE PRICE! But does it really work as well as the AirTag? I put them both to the test.

One More Thing…
My kids are off at sleepaway camp. I miss them a lot. The noise, the chaos, the snack crumbs all over the couch. The midnight ice cream runs.
But you know what else disappeared?
My credit card bill.
I just checked — and it’s down 63% this month. Not kidding. No constant grocery restocks. No random Amazon orders for neon Crocs or phone accessories. No last-minute weekend activities that somehow cost $100 “per kid.”
Turns out, when the kids are away… the spending also goes on vacation.
Now listen, I’d take the noise and chaos back in a heartbeat. But this little financial breather got me thinking:
How much are we actually spending — just to keep our kids entertained and fed?
A few quick stats:
The average family spends $237 a week just on kids’ food and activities in summer, according to LendingTree.
And nearly 70% of parents say they overspend in summer without realizing it.
So, if your kids are at camp right now? Enjoy the peace and that suddenly lighter credit card balance — while it lasts. I know I am.

Jeff
