I’ve been covering consumer issues for years… and I don’t say this lightly: I’ve never seen Americans more collectively stressed about money than right now.

Everywhere I go — the grocery store, my kids’ school, the bar (Tito’s and Diet Coke for me), even in texts from friends — people are talking about money. Prices are going up (again), tariffs are about to hit everyday products, and we don’t know what our 401(k)s will look like next week.

Let’s be real — it’s not just “news” I’m reporting on. I’m living it, too.

This week alone, I found myself panic-buying olive oil and coffee (yes, before the tariffs kick in), while also doom-scrolling through my retirement account like it’s a horror movie. I used to laugh at my parents for stockpiling canned food. Now I am my parents. (Don’t tell my mom. Can’t give her that.)

I started this newsletter because we need a place to cut through the noise together — a space where I can break down what’s happening, how it affects your wallet, and what I’m personally doing about it. I’m an expert at helping you live your best life, with the money you have: it’s about stretchinggggg that money.

On My Mind

Today, my friend sent me a picture that made my jaw drop.

He was in our local grocery store and couldn’t find the salad dressing he wanted (tough life). He’s a bit of a tech nerd so he pulled out his phone, and opened ChatGPT. He took a photo of the wall of dressings and asked if AI could find the dressing he wanted. Check out his question and the AI response!

Can you believe that?? I know it’s a small thing…but it may be the craziest thing I’ve ever seen AI do!

(He even misspelled “see”)

It got me thinking….can we use AI to save money at the grocery store? What about gas? Clothing stores? Big box stores? Is the key to saving THOUSANDS literally on all our phones right now?
