The times, they are a-changing. My daughter just completed a master's program in something that AI will likely render useless within a few years. My son skipped college, went through an accelerated trade program at the end of high school -- totally free, by the way -- and instantly found work as a welder.
I recently completed my AS at my local community college. When asked if I planned to continue for a BS, I haven't been able to justify the cost (a higher degree won't benefit me in my job). When my daughter gets to high school, I plan to tell her that a 4-year degree is a personal choice, but a costly one that doesn't carry the benefit it used to.
College is such a scam. They set up naive 18 year-old’s to fail with (in many cases) ridiculous degrees that will never land you a job. I’ve read articles about people majoring in “Star Wars” and “taylor swift” - 😮
Glad to know that my “Lightsaber” skills are going to help me pour coffee.
I love what I do and I have zero regrets but in an alternate universe I would’ve learned a trade or worked my way up the corporate ladder at McDonald’s and owned a couple of franchises.
I always tell kids today unless you’re incredibly passionate about something — learn a trade. AI can never unclog your toilet - at least I hope not 🚽
If my kids came to me and said, I want to start a business -- and they were passionate about it and there was a real need for it in this new world -- I'd be all on board! Yes, AI is going to change the world. They say it'll be an even bigger game changer than the invention of the internet. What a ride!

Congrats to both your kids! And to you. Clearly you're doing something right. Thanks for the support!

Makes TOTAL sense! What do you want to do for a living?
Municipal data entry. Love your reporting, btw!
